History
Lucknow became prominent under the Nawabs of Awadh (18th–19th century), making it India's most cultured city. The 1857 First War of Independence — the Siege of Lucknow lasted 87 days. Nawabs patronized Kathak, Hindustani music, Urdu poetry, and Awadhi cuisine. The Charbagh Railway Station (1923) is one of India's most beautiful colonial stations.
